We often swap one unhealthy habit for another or switch between these behaviours to cope, however the coping we are talking about is more about avoidance than coping.  The more behaviours we employ to suppress emotions, the more frequent these negative emotional expression moments occur or you may find your self feeling numb.

S.T.R.E.S.S.O.R’s are negative behaviours we use that help suppress or relieve emotions (in the short term) and avoid expressing how we are feeling. They may also give us an adrenaline boost or make us happy in the short term.  We humans spend a lot of time invested in old, negative patterns of behavior including eating habits.

Self discovery is the best way to learn about how you work and what makes you do what you do, it is time well spent. The more you know about who you are and what you do, the more control you have over the outcome of your actions in pursuit of your goals.

Any given situation triggers an emotion

These emotions can be attached to memories from a past situation, and not immediately apparent but become more obvious through coaching sessions.

The Emotions influence the thoughts and the thoughts influence the actions or behaviour which in turn influence the outcome. This process happens in all situations, often mindlessly and happens in the negative or the positive and can become a default mode and pattern of response.

When a negative pattern is set, what people don’t recognise is that they can change the outcome by understanding the process and making different choices.

You may not be able to change the emotion triggered. However, when you recognise the emotions, you can choose to change your thoughts and behaviour, therefore the outcome.

The same process can be used to inspire intrinsic motivation, by helping clients recognise how a given situation triggers certain emotions they can learn how to control what they do about it.
