Me, Myself and I

With family life being so manic, it is easy to become wrapped up in putting other people’s needs first, making sure they are happy, while you question why? Wonder no more.

Yes, I’ve been there too. I am a carer at heart and love nothing more than helping others. I spent many years bending over backwards to meet the needs of others while I suffered, my self esteem took hit after hit and I continued to put others first, until I realised that I didn’t have to.  I had a right to look after number one.

I can almost hear you saying “I couldn’t do that”, but why not?

While you are looking after everyone else you are potentially damaging yourself mentally, emotionally and draining yourself physically, generally for no gain other than a short lived sense of self satisfaction.  It's short lived because you are short changing yourself, compromising who you are and leaving yourself out.

You are the most important person in your life, your child’s life and your partners life, but that does not have to mean you give until there is nothing left for yourself. Take a tip from me, no one appreciates it as much as you think.

Looking after yourself is nothing more than self preservation and will benefit the people around you in the long run, you’ll be happier, less stressed and able to cope with life in all it’s glory.

Like a ripple affect when you start looking after yourself your partner, children, family, friends and colleagues will benefit too.  Life will change for the better and you will feel happier
